Which Is Better: 1200mm or 1400mm Ceiling Fan?
Neither size is universally better. The right choice depends on the room size, room shape, ceiling height, and how the space is used.
In most Indian homes, a 1200 mm ceiling fan is the standard choice because it suits many regular bedrooms, living rooms, and offices. A 1400 mm ceiling fan is better when the room is larger and you need the fan to spread air over a wider area.
So the better question is not “Which is better?” but “Which size is right for this room?”
Where 1200 mm Fans Are Usually Better
A 1200 mm fan is usually the better choice for standard-sized rooms, typically 10 by 10 sq.ft or 10 by 12 sq.ft.
This size works well in many bedrooms and regular living spaces because it gives a good balance of air delivery, coverage, and fit. In a room that is not too large, a 1400 mm fan may be unnecessary and can feel oversized.
A 1200 mm fan is also easier to accommodate when:
- The room has furniture close to the fan sweep area
- The room is narrower
- The ceiling height is modest
- The fan has to fit comfortably without dominating the space
That is one reason 1200 mm remains the most common ceiling fan size.
Where 1400 mm Fans Are Better
A 1400 mm fan is better when the room is larger and a wider sweep helps move air more effectively across the space, typically rooms larger than 10 by 12 sq.ft.
This can make sense in:
- Larger bedrooms and bigger halls
- Commercial rooms
- Rooms with wider layouts
A larger fan can often provide better comfort in such spaces because it covers more area. But that does not mean bigger is always better. If the fan is too large for the room, the fit may be awkward and the space planning may become difficult.
Bigger Fan Does Not Automatically Mean Better Comfort
Many buyers assume that a larger fan will always feel better. That is not always true. A ceiling fan should suit the room. If the room is moderate in size, a 1200 mm fan is often the better choice because it is already adequate. Going to 1400 mm only makes sense when the room genuinely needs the extra span.
The goal is not to choose the biggest fan possible. The goal is to choose the size that gives the right air spread for the space.
